Women´s ways

“ In my opinion women are lacking creative phantasy, musical invention and therefore, they are lacking the inherent ability of any independant work.”

wrote the well-known music critic Eduard Hanslick in 1886.
People agreed with him and during the whole history of music it was considered that women weren´t able to compose great pieces of music. Therefore, women composers were surpressed from fathers, brothers, husbands, publishers, concert managers and music historics.
Were they right? Were women composers different from men composers? Do the women composers of the past have a claim on a serious acknowledgement of their work?
All these questions are answered or denied musicially by the Duo Kalinowsky in their programme “Women´s ways”. Works of women composers from the beginning of the 19th century and the 20th century, e.g. Helene Liebmann, Fanny Hensel, Clara Schumann, Rebecca Clarke and Elfrida Andree are presented. A special highlight in the programme is set by the work of the Jewish woman composer Sarah Feigin, who is connected with the Duo Kalinowsky through a long creative co-operation.
Through the moderation, the audience can take a look at the female artist´s biography.
